Welcome to San Saba, Texas, the "Pecan Capital of the World!" The city and surrounding area is home to three city parks, an exquistie eighteen-hole golf course and rv park, a charming and historic downtown district, excellent fishingand hunting, and other attactionslocated within the city and the surrounding area.
Of the three city parks, the first is Mill Pond Park, a beautifully well-manicured site featuring a scenic duck pond, waterfall, recreational courts for sand vollyball and basketball, and a gazebo for picnicing and family gatherings.
The second, Risien Park, features a more natural presentation of hill country landscaping. This park, also, houses an outdoor facility that can be used for reunions or wedding receptions. Its picnic area is located on the scenic banks of the San Saba River. The river itself offers beautiful vistas of pristine waters and ancient pecans.
The third, West Side Neighborhood Park, features a playground landscape and a recreational basketball court. Though small, it has big offerings for "play" for the young and the "young at heart."
East of the city lies the San Saba River Golf Course, an exquisite eighteen-hole golf course, touted by Golf Digest as "one of the best courses to play" four years in a row. On the grounds of the course, is the San Saba River RV Park and Club House, an inviting place for a "play and stay" experience.
The downtown area is as charming as it is historic. Situated around the town square and county courthouse, are quaint shops and businesses. The Burden Hotel, circa the late 1850's, is nestled inside the historic downtown district and is said to be the first two-story structure built in the county.
Located throughout the town are churches of varying denominations which offer Sunday and weekly worship services. Many of these churches are also known for their historic beauty and architecture, noteably the First United Methodist Church and St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
San Saba ISD lies just west of the downtown district. It boasts high academic standards and a sports program which has produced a regional championship baseball team as well as state championship individuals and teams in both golf and tennis.
The countryside surrounding San Saba is teeming with a variety of game for hunters. During deer season, San Saba is one of the more popular places to hunt in the hill country. The San Saba River also provides plentiful fishing for avid anglers.
