Woodpeckers of Texas with Dr. Terry Maxwell!

San Saba Bird and Nature Club welcomes retired professor Dr. Terry Maxwell, on Tuesday, February 21, 2017.

Dr. Maxwell’s presentation will address the different woodpecker species found in Texas. Everyone with an interest is welcome to attend. Join us at the San Saba Civic Center, 1190 S. Thomas Stewart Drive, at 2:00 p.m. Come early if you’d like to visit.

Dr. Maxwell joined the Angelo State University faculty in 1976 in the Department of Biology. He spent 38 years in the department, including seven years as department chair until his retirement in May of 2014.

Dr. Maxwell also served as curator of the Birds Collection in the Angelo State Natural History Collections. He conducted field research throughout North and South America.

In addition to his teaching and research, Maxwell penned a weekly column, “Naturally Texas,” in the San Angelo Standard-Times that included his professional-quality drawings of Concho Valley animals and birds. His colorful blackboard chalk drawings of various animals were a permanent fixture in the Biology Department at ASU.
